Maison Kitsun\u00e9 unveiled its Spring\/Summer 2027 collection, \u201cUrban Glide,\u201d on June 27, 2026, during Paris Fashion Week, in the gardens of the H\u00f4tel de Rohan in Paris. Centered on the concept of \u201criding the waves through the city,\u201d the collection explores how people navigate the urban landscape with lightness and fluidity during the height of summer. It marks Creative Director Abigail Smiley-Smith\u2019s third collection at the helm.<\/span><\/p>

For Spring\/Summer 2027, Maison Kitsun\u00e9 drew inspiration from how people navigate the city during the height of summer, observing the various ways people adapt to high temperatures, bright sunlight, and crowded environments in urban life, and woven the three key concepts of \u201cprotection,\u201d \u201cwater-inspired,\u201d and \u201cescape\u201d throughout the collection. A conversation between Maison Kitsun\u00e9 co-founders Gildas Loa\u00ebc and Abigail Smiley-Smith served as the starting point for this season\u2019s concept. The two discussed how Japanese cities are adapting to increasingly hot summers and drew particular inspiration from the protective clothing worn by construction workers in Tokyo: lightweight, layered designs that shield against the sun and heat while remaining highly breathable. This observation led to a broader exploration of comfort, movement, and the relationship between the body and its environment.<\/span><\/p>

In this collection, \u201cprotection\u201d takes on both practical and conceptual dimensions. Lightweight performance fabrics, breathable construction, cooling materials, and loose silhouettes create a soft, protective layer for the body without restricting movement. The collection also draws inspiration from the creative vocabularies of artists Christo and Do Ho Suh, using concepts such as envelopment, layering, transparency, and fluidity to develop designs that blur the boundaries between clothing, architecture, and personal space.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cWater\u201d serves as the visual and material theme that runs throughout the collection. Reflections, ripples, and the play of light and shadow are transformed into prints, jacquard patterns, and three-dimensional textures; In terms of color, bright blues, deep ocean blues, mineral grays, sun-bleached neutrals, and warm sandy tones intertwine, echoing the contrast between the coolness of urban shadows and the scorching scenery of midsummer. Gradual wash effects, bleaching, and fading treatments also capture the traces left on the garments by sunlight, time, and movement.<\/span><\/p>

Marine elements infuse the collection with both functionality and aesthetics. Details such as lobster traps, canvas, and marine tarps are transformed into fabric textures, structures, and practical designs. Continuing Maison Kitsun\u00e9\u2019s signature Parisian and Tokyo perspectives, this collection also draws inspiration from the brand\u2019s lifestyle destination in Bali, Desa Kitsun\u00e9. The relaxed rhythm of island life is reinterpreted through a more urban lens, shaping a wardrobe that combines functionality, comfort, and a sense of escape. \u201cUrban Glide\u201d does not pit the city against nature, but rather explores the possibilities of fluid transition between the two.<\/span><\/p>

Abigail Smiley-Smith said, \u201cThrough Urban Glide, I wanted to explore how clothing can offer both a sense of protection and a sense of freedom. This collection reflects how we adapt to our surroundings, whether navigating the fast-paced city or seeking moments of escape in our daily lives. It\u2019s about creating clothing that moves with the wearer and responds to the environment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

This season also features several collaborations that further enrich the collection\u2019s narrative. Japanese artist En Iwamura reinterprets Maison Kitsun\u00e9\u2019s iconic fox motif, transforming it into a symbol of movement and metamorphosis. This character appears across ready-to-wear pieces, accessories, and runway set designs, playfully initiating a dialogue between nature and the city, tradition and modernity.<\/span><\/p>

En Iwamura said, \u201cWhen I received this invitation, I was both excited and deeply curious. In my artistic practice, I primarily use clay as my medium and move freely between sculpture and two-dimensional works such as paintings, seeking new creative possibilities.
