Maison Margiela Tabi Shoes Pop-Up Installation
onefifteen has partnered with Maison Margiela to present a pop-up installation art exhibition featuring the brand’s iconic Tabi split-toe shoes. This exhibition marks the first Maison Margiela Tabi Shoes installation art display in Taiwan, showcases various styles from the Fall/Winter 2020 collection, blending them with the brand’s signature white aesthetic.
The founder of the brand, Martin Margiela, is renowned in the fashion world as a "deconstruction genius." Current creative director John Galliano, known for his imaginative and avant-garde style, is celebrated as a rare creative talent in the fashion industry. For the Fall/Winter 2020 collection, John Galliano introduced the new concept of "Recicla" for Maison Margiela. "Recicla" means "reuse" and signifies a return to the essence of things, rediscovering or reviving forgotten characteristics and values, and awakening latent collective emotions. Galliano meticulously sourced and selected vintage garments from various places, deconstructing and reconstructing them. For instance, he transformed coats into elongated collars and combined several garments into a "worn" feeling dress. This approach advances the brand’s existing Replica concept, taking it a significant step forward in reinterpreting and remaking old clothes.
During the Spring/Summer 1988 debut, Maison Margiela introduced its iconic Tabi Boots, inspired by traditional Japanese split-toe socks. Martin Margiela transformed this Eastern cultural element into a groundbreaking Western fashion design. To captivate the audience, Margiela famously dipped the soles of the boots in red paint, creating dramatic blood footprints on the white runway as models walked, cementing the Tabi Boots as a classic coveted by celebrities and fashion enthusiasts alike. Now, over 30 years after its debut, current creative director John Galliano has reintroduced the Tabi design with an extended range of split-toe footwear, including retro-inspired Mary Janes, canvas shoes, sleek dress shoes, and loafers. Onefifteen is excited to exclusively bring the Fall/Winter 2020 collection to Taiwan, featuring painted canvas versions of the Tabi Boots. These styles incorporate black and white canvas with silver splatter effects on the toe, injecting a bold and avant-garde visual twist into the classic casual canvas silhouette.
