News > Press Release > MAISON KITSUNÉ Fall/Winter 2025 Returning to the Palace of Paris, Uptown's Urban Foxes play urban exploration.
Maison Kitsuné FW25
An Uptown City Fox
Kitsuné began in 2002, a creative vision born at the crossroads of music, fashion and graphic design.
Since then, its grown to include an internationally recognised house, Maison Kitsuné, beloved as much for its bold and eclectic take on café style as its fashion.
For Fall/Winter ’25, Maison Kitsuné explores its beginnings on Palais-Royal, the site of its first café, where the city’s past meets its present, tradition meets modern art, and Parisian sophistication is laced with a dash of irreverence. In its silhouettes the collection takes its cue from the collision of modern French elegance and preppy style, while a collaboration with graphic designer Kajsa Ståhl, an original co-founder of Kitsuné, takes the house’s mischievous little fox on new illustrated adventures.
Kitsuné’s friends, collaborators and clients spread from Paris, where the atelier is, to Japan, where the Maison draws much of its design inspiration, and as such you can find Japanese values embedded throughout the fabrics and details. The heart of the collection is the outerwear necessary for navigating the urban landscape, with a lightness of fabrics that comes from Kitsuné’s fans being spread across the world, where winter has many definitions. Luckily, the collection’s colour scheme of black, beige and grey communicate a universal language of sophistication.
Women’s jackets are slightly cropped, with light puffas given a cocoon shape that’s a further development of a style from last season. A black wool jacket, double breasted with sharp lapels and cuffs, interprets a preppy classic. For men, a puffa parka in heavier nylon, a shearling jacket and a tailored coat in wool contrast with the preppy style of a varsity jacket replete with a Kitsuné graphic. The tailored coat’s soft shouldered shape comes from a split seam that gives an effortless and modern touch to the classic.
The playful vibe of the trickster fox comes through in the drawings of Kajsa Ståhl, the London-based artist, and has returned at the invitation of the house after an initial capsule collaboration in 2023. This season sees five playful new interpretations of the logo under Kajsa’s pen, channelling the playful spirit of the Palais-Royal artwork, the iconic square and surreal artistic destination, with its striped interrupted pillars.
Kajsa The designs combine architecture with humor and surrealism. The 'Sunt Fox' design features three foxes stacked on top of each other; the 'Kawaii' depicts a small fox crossing a bridge between two syllables; the 'Maison Kitsuné Crossword' transforms the brand's logo into a game of words; the 'Maison Kitsuné Pillar' features a fox standing at the top of a striped column on the Palais-Royal; and the 'Party Fox' pays homage to the brand's graffiti origins with a graffiti-style smiling fox. The "Maison Kitsuné Pillar" features a fox standing on top of the Palais-Royal's striped columns, while the "Party Fox" pays homage to the brand's graffiti origins with a graffiti-style smiley-face fox. This joyful graphic infusion is a red thread that runs through the brand, whether it's through the bright totems or the understated fox logo eggs hidden throughout the collections, adding a playful touch to Maison Kitsuné's closet.
Refined yet free-spirited, the ever-changing fox remains agile and endlessly versatile.
“I visited the Maison, and then was walking around Paris seeing all these pillars in the architecture. And I was imagining the Kitsuné fox having this new life, the fox in the architecture of the letters.” says Kajsa of the graphics. “I love the freedom of wearing something very sophisticated with something casual, which is key to Kistuné, so you see the many faces of the fox in these designs. As well as the Maison Kitsuné Pillar, there’s the cute one, where the little fox is also about scale, very tiny and it's standing on the hyphen, holding the work together. Or the trio, where the fox has become the building themselves. They just stand on top of each other. I mean, also very playful and curious, I would say.”
Says Kajsa of the Maison’s journey, “We liked the mythology of the Japanese story, that a fox can turn into anything. I think that’s especially true now Kitsuné has grown. It’s womenswear and menswear, it’s a café and record label. The fox is always agile.”
From collegiate roots to an uptown take on effortless French chic.
Further expanding the Maison’s vocabulary, Prince of Wales check signals a seasonal shift for women, a chic French twist on the British classic. It appears in a soft shouldered jacket, waistcoat, kilted dress, kilted skirt and trousers.
Further shirting for men includes a series of workwear shirts in black and grey flannel, fresh outsize shapes which still retain a sense of proportion, a newly developed twin stripe, and a striped poplin number in differing shades of blue. For the first time, ideas from the men’s shirting move across to womenswear, with delicate stripes and an outsize shapes, such as a boyfriend oxford, appearing for the first time.
Femininity peeks through in jersey - cropped tops in mesh and pointelle are delicate in black, underpinning the heavier outerwear and tailoring and adding a see through touch. Maison Kitsuné has developed a wintery rib to further layer with, as well as a light lyocell blend with cotton, and relaxed and boxy oversize fits to complete the urban wardrobe. Discreet branding comes in the shape of the fox, either as a little touch over the heart, or full-sized and dressed in Maison Kitsuné Sunday best.
Flou has also been further developed for women this season, another first. An easy black dress in crepe de chine, perfect for wearing with sandals or sneakers, and fluid mid length skirts, designed to be worn day and night.
Maison Kitsuné's use of Italian denim continues the label's relaxed yet well-proportioned style, which has become a centerpiece of the collection after selling well over the seasons. The new washes and silhouettes, including overdye and black denim, add new possibilities to the brand's classic indigo color palette, demonstrating the sense of ease that Maison Kitsuné's closet is all about. In blazers, short jackets, mini skirts, distressed jeans or new flared silhouettes, denim is a new classic for all occasions and is ready to be worn.
The breadth of knitwear’s luxurious textures are explored, with a host of materials and techniques. Seasonal pieces are a play on ease - beautifully cropped cardigans and knit jacket in blush, cream and pistachio are discreetly branded, Play is injected through textured argyle and check, cable and brushed mohair, in charcoal dresses and skirts. Essentials are focussed around merino, lambswool and ribbed classics in soft colours. For men, knits include thick brushed mohair V-necked sweaters in tan and black, oversize cardigans, and a knit collared jacket with “Kitsuné” down the sleeve in varsity lettering. The overall effect is one of easy elegance, adding colour, warmth and soft textures to the city wardrobe.
The Edie bag is emblematic of the Maison, with its practical and sleekly compact shape clasped by fox hardware. This season the range expands, with a new embossed crocodile finish in mahogany red, brown and black. The Casey is a new bag this season, coming in dark burgundy, black and royal blue.
Women’s shoes are perfect for the city dweller, with block-heeled loafers in black, flat loafers embellished with a chic gold chain, and knee-high boots with a slight Western edge in tan and black. Men’s shoes combine sophistication and practicality too, with black deck shoes, loafers and lace up boots.
As the definition of Kitsuné expands, the Maison has more faces, and more fans. It’s in keeping with its namesake fox, who through this season’s adventure, imagined by Kajsa Ståhl, has been exploring uptown with humour and irreverence once again. Timeless, however, are the values that lie within the Maison – a love for experimentation, boldly exploring the city and the people who love it and call it home, and a curiosity and admiration for classic style.
