MAISON KITSUNÉ x KURO SS26
Inspired by the spirit of Japanese artisans and rooted in the Parisian lifestyle
Inspired by the spirit of Japanese artisans and rooted in the Parisian lifestyle
Maison Kitsuné embarks on a new chapter of dialogue with Japanese culture through its collaboration with Tokyo-based high-end fashion brand KURO on a new denim capsule collection. KURO is renowned for its uncompromising craftsmanship, and this collaboration reflects the shared vision of both brands for clothing as a cultural medium, weaving people, heritage, and stories into each piece.
The campaign featured a special invitation to the Japanese artisans behind KURO to wear items from the collection in the photos, paying tribute to their exceptional craftsmanship and professionalism.
Interpreting denim in a slow and profound way
The Maison Kitsuné x KURO collaboration is not just a limited-time event, but also a symbol of their shared commitment to slow fashion, quality design, and cultural authenticity. By blending the exquisite techniques of Japanese textile craftsmanship with Maison Kitsuné's unique Art de Vivre, this collection views denim as a timeless medium of expression, rather than a fleeting trend.
This collaboration infuses the world of Japanese denim with Parisian style, striking a balance between structural rigor and poetic expression. The entire collection is made in Japan using selvedge denim woven on a shuttle loom, employing time-honored traditional techniques that emphasize the fabric's texture, durability, and the beauty of imperfection, allowing the material to evolve naturally over time.
Founded in Tokyo in 2010 by designer Yusuke Yatsuhashi, KURO has become a leading brand representing high-end Japanese denim with its motto, "Monozukuri" (ものづくり) —a pursuit of craftsmanship imbued with soul. All KURO garments are dyed, cut, and made in Kojima, Okayama. This region is renowned for its expertise in selvedge denim and traditional indigo dyeing techniques.
Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki, co-founders of Maison Kitsuné, said, "Yusuke Yatsuhashi of KURO is a unique Japanese denim expert. We are very grateful for his profound knowledge of denim and washing techniques that he brings to this collaboration. We are delighted to present these beautiful creations we have worked on together in our stores."
Maison Kitsuné Creative Director Abigail Smiley Smith also stated, "This collaboration is about slowing down and letting the material speak for itself. Working with KURO allows us to reinterpret denim in a more conscious way, focusing on the production process, texture, and durability."
Speaking about the collaboration, KURO Creative Director and Designer Yusuke Yatsuhashi said, "Working with Maison Kitsuné, who also values craftsmanship and narrative, is a very special encounter for us. Through this capsule collection, we feel the fusion of the precision of Japanese craftsmanship and the poetic sensibility of Paris, allowing the clothing to grow and evolve with the wearer."
The core piece of this capsule collection is a denim suit (work jacket and matching trousers) featuring hand-painted and handwritten postcard motifs of Parisian landmarks. These thoughtfully designed pieces, resembling wearable souvenirs, transform denim into a visual travelogue, conveying beautiful memories, the passage of time, and cultural exchange through illustrations.
In addition, the entire collection also includes a classic selvedge denim jacket and matching trousers, a sun-faded sweatshirt adorned with Maison Kitsuné's classic fox motif, a vintage washed T-shirt incorporating elements of both Paris and Tokyo, and a selection of accessories including denim hats and tote bags. The overall capsule collection creates a sophisticated, gender-neutral wardrobe choice, grounded in craftsmanship and designed to suit a variety of occasions from day to night.
The Maison Kitsuné x KURO capsule collectionwill be available from March 3, 2026at select Maison Kitsuné stores worldwide, the official online store, and the KURO Store in The Blue Store in Tokyo.
