Romantic, dreamy and whimsical are the perfect words to describe Copenhagen, Denmark-based designer label Cecilie Bahnsen. A graduate of the Royal College of Art in London, designer Cecilie Bahnsen has worked for some of the biggest brands in the world and rose to fame after being selected as a finalist for the LVMH Prize in 2017. With exaggerated puffed sleeves and hemlines, girlish ribbons and netting, romantic ruffles, and gorgeous pleated collars as classic elements of the brand, designer Cecilie Bahnsen utilizes a Scandinavian aesthetic of simplicity and vulgarity to create three-dimensional, glamorous designs. Specialty fabrics and traditional craftsmanship are used to infuse the designs with customized textures and rich details. In addition to this, silhouettes and sculptural techniques are incorporated into the designs to create a sense of novelty and change with the free flow of light and shadow in each piece.

For Spring/Summer 2023, Cecilie Bahnsen's Spring/Summer 2023 collection is inspired by the designer's past experience of seeing Yoko Ono's artwork at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, which transformed the designer's emotions into romantic garments. The concept of 'water' flows through the design of cut-outs and pleats to symbolize the ripples on the surface of the water; the glazed openwork fabrics and cut-outs are designed to be asymmetrically fluffy, giving the garments their usual aesthetic language of delicate structuring.
