BIYAN

BIYAN is a fashion brand founded by the talented Indonesian designer Biyan Wanaatmadja. After studying craftsmanship at the London College of Fashion, he apprenticed at Enrico Coveri in Florence, where he gained valuable practical experience in cutting and detailing. Upon returning to Indonesia, Biyan established a personal studio in his hometown of Surabaya, where he handled design and sales. His first women's collection launched in 1984 sparked considerable discussion within Indonesia's fashion scene. After nearly a decade of development, he officially unveiled a complete collection in 1992 and opened his first store in a major shopping center in Jakarta. Today, BIYAN has matured and diversified, offering sub-lines such as STUDIO 133 BIYAN, targeting the youth market with (X)S.M.L, BIYAN Bride, and home decor line BIYAN LIVING, making it one of the most recognized Indonesian fashion brands in the international fashion arena.

Indonesia's rich history and culture serve as a profound source of inspiration for BIYAN. The designer skillfully incorporates exquisite tailoring techniques and vibrant traditional crafts—such as batik, weaving, and embroidery—into his fashion designs, creating a brand aesthetic that is both romantically classical and trend-forward. In 2012, BIYAN showcased at Paris Fashion Week, showcasing the design prowess emerging from the Far East and successfully attracting collaborations with top-tier department stores and boutiques like Bergdorf Goodman, Joyce Boutique, and Club 21. Indonesian fashion media have rightfully dubbed Biyan Wanaatmadja as the "light of Indonesian designers," a title that reflects his significant impact on the fashion world.
