Maison Kitsuné Spring/Summer 2027 Collection
URBAN GLIDE: Riding the Waves Through the City

Maison Kitsuné unveiled its Spring/Summer 2027 collection, “Urban Glide,” on June 27, 2026, during Paris Fashion Week, in the gardens of the Hôtel de Rohan in Paris. Centered on the concept of “riding the waves through the city,” the collection explores how people navigate the urban landscape with lightness and fluidity during the height of summer. It marks Creative Director Abigail Smiley-Smith’s third collection at the helm.

For Spring/Summer 2027, Maison Kitsuné drew inspiration from how people navigate the city during the height of summer, observing the various ways people adapt to high temperatures, bright sunlight, and crowded environments in urban life, and woven the three key concepts of “protection,” “water-inspired,” and “escape” throughout the collection. The brand has created a contemporary summer wardrobe that combines protection, functionality, and seamless versatility, allowing the wearer to move effortlessly between the city and the coast.

A conversation between Maison Kitsuné co-founders Gildas Loaëc and Abigail Smiley-Smith served as the starting point for this season’s concept. The two discussed how Japanese cities are adapting to increasingly hot summers and drew particular inspiration from the protective clothing worn by construction workers in Tokyo: lightweight, layered designs that shield against the sun and heat while remaining highly breathable. This observation led to a broader exploration of comfort, movement, and the relationship between the body and its environment.

In this collection, “protection” takes on both practical and conceptual dimensions. Lightweight performance fabrics, breathable construction, cooling materials, and loose silhouettes create a soft, protective layer for the body without restricting movement. The collection also draws inspiration from the creative vocabularies of artists Christo and Do Ho Suh, using concepts such as envelopment, layering, transparency, and fluidity to develop designs that blur the boundaries between clothing, architecture, and personal space.

“Water” serves as the visual and material theme that runs throughout the collection. Reflections, ripples, and the play of light and shadow are transformed into prints, jacquard patterns, and three-dimensional textures; In terms of color, bright blues, deep ocean blues, mineral grays, sun-bleached neutrals, and warm sandy tones intertwine, echoing the contrast between the coolness of urban shadows and the scorching scenery of midsummer. Gradual wash effects, bleaching, and fading treatments also capture the traces left on the garments by sunlight, time, and movement.

Marine elements infuse the collection with both functionality and aesthetics. Details such as lobster traps, canvas, and marine tarps are transformed into fabric textures, structures, and practical designs. Inspiration from surfing and diving apparel brings a stronger focus on athletic functionality, including garments with cooling properties, thermochromic windbreakers, and thermochromic triangular totes that change color in response to ambient temperature.

Continuing Maison Kitsuné’s signature Parisian and Tokyo perspectives, this collection also draws inspiration from the brand’s lifestyle destination in Bali, Desa Kitsuné. The relaxed rhythm of island life is reinterpreted through a more urban lens, shaping a wardrobe that combines functionality, comfort, and a sense of escape. “Urban Glide” does not pit the city against nature, but rather explores the possibilities of fluid transition between the two.

Abigail Smiley-Smith said, “Through Urban Glide, I wanted to explore how clothing can offer both a sense of protection and a sense of freedom. This collection reflects how we adapt to our surroundings, whether navigating the fast-paced city or seeking moments of escape in our daily lives. It’s about creating clothing that moves with the wearer and responds to the environment.”

This season also features several collaborations that further enrich the collection’s narrative. Japanese artist En Iwamura reinterprets Maison Kitsuné’s iconic fox motif, transforming it into a symbol of movement and metamorphosis. This character appears across ready-to-wear pieces, accessories, and runway set designs, playfully initiating a dialogue between nature and the city, tradition and modernity.

En Iwamura said, “When I received this invitation, I was both excited and deeply curious. In my artistic practice, I primarily use clay as my medium and move freely between sculpture and two-dimensional works such as paintings, seeking new creative possibilities. Therefore, collaborating with the fashion industry in this way is a fresh and unexpected challenge for me.”

The collaboration between Maison Kitsuné and Snow Peak further strengthens the connection between urban life and escape. Founded in Japan in 1958, Snow Peak is renowned for its innovative outdoor lifestyle, combining technical expertise with a brand philosophy centered on reconnecting people with nature. The capsule collection created by the two brands blends functional performance with the versatility of everyday wear, translating outdoor innovation into the contemporary urban wardrobe.

Other collaborations include ATP Atelier, which offers a more feminine take on sandals, high heels, and leather goods; and LONO, whose footwear designs—inspired by the sensation of walking barefoot—echo the collection’s exploration of the relationship between the body, movement, and the environment.

At the Paris Fashion Week runway show, Maison Kitsuné transformed the gardens of the Hôtel de Rohan into a serene urban landscape where fashion, art, and performance converged. Large-scale sculptures by En Iwamura adorned the space, extending the collection’s exploration of movement, transformation, and the dialogue between nature and the city.

The event also featured a choir performance, reinterpreting several classic electronic music tracks with distinctive vocal arrangements. Reflecting Maison Kitsuné’s deep connection to music and the cultural context of its record label, Kitsuné Musique, this performance transformed familiar sounds from contemporary club culture into a powerful collective experience.

Some of the runway looks were paired with jewelry by Stockholm-based designer Louis Abel, adding a delicate, sculptural touch to the presentation.

Through “Urban Glide,” Maison Kitsuné presents a contemporary summer wardrobe defined by adaptability and ease, balancing technical innovation with everyday elegance through the brand’s signature Parisian and Tokyo perspectives.
